Happy Thanksgiving

Yesterday, Thanksgiving Day we all were able to see Abelina! She is so amazing! It had been six days since I had seen her and she wanted to communicate. She was smiling and nodding her head in excitement. Then after a great effort on her part ,we were able to figure out that she wanted to show me that, she could move her hands with prompting. So, I said,"o.k. I will look at your left hand." I watched her hand closely as she wiggled a few of her fingers. This is such an amazing feat considering what the doctors have been telling us about her abilities. Then with the same enthusiasm she wanted me to look at her other hand. So, I removed the covers from her right hand and I said, "o.k. Abelina move your left hand." Again with a huge smile on her face she moved one finger slightly and was able to raise up her hand. This is even more astonishing considering her right arm is casted and carries some weight. She was so excited and optimistic. Then she spelled out on the white board that she was breathing on her own. I said, "I know for three days now"! Again, she smiled with enthusiasm. Due to Abraham, my daughter Kylie and my husband John having the cold I had last week, they were unable to go into the hospital room. But they were allowed to stand outside the room and talk . Abraham, was able to show his mom his haircut, that she insisted both him and Angel get. Don't be fooled, she is still determined to continue her motherly duties. Abraham, also was able to show his mom his A papers from school. Abelina wanted all of them on her bulletin board. Angel with his unbridled enthusiasm , shared stories from the past week. Abelina and I always kid about Angel and Kylie and their talking, so we had a nice chuckle. Claudia, was able to spend a lot of time with her mama on Wednesday doing her leg exercising and massaging her legs. This was a tremendous help for both Claudia and her mommy. Abelina, then saw my son Johnny, they are very close. She again went to great efforts to communicate with him, so we got out the whiteboard. The family has written out the entire alphabet on the whiteboard and then we point at the letters. She then nods yes or no or up or down. Also, she has learned to use her eyes to point at the different letters. Those of you that know Abelina, know her eyes are a very powerful tool. Anyhow, she had me write out, I will make cake! She was tyring to follow up on a promise with my son Johnny! Pryor to this happening she kept telling Johnny,"She owed him a cake, for his Birthday!" Can you believe how thoughtful she is? This just goes to show you what caliber of a women we are dealing with.

So let me remind all of you , that are praying for Abelina! The detectives never thought she would make it through the night on October 12Th! It now has been six weeks today that she has fought this battle and won. Secondly, the doctors said, "she would never breathe on her own." She has been breathing on her own off and on for several weeks now. Thirdly, the doctors said, "she would never have movement in any part of her body except her shoulders and neck. " They also said, "that any movement she was making was from contractions. "Abelina, is asking people to watch her move her hands. The doctors have used the word "miracle" on several occasions! Yes, she is a miracle, her work is not done yet! So God Bless all of you that continue to have faith and continue to pray for our blessed Abelina
.

Happy Thanksgiving to you Diana and your entire family. It is so wonderful to read your anecdotes. Your enthusiasm about Abelina's progress emanates from your writing. I am sure that many of us who don't know Abelina, feel like we have come to know her and her children through your amazing stories. I keep my family updated on Abelina's progress and my children are always asking me how she and the family are doing. How fantastic for all of you to be able to share these miracles with Abelina on Thanksgiving Day. We will continue to think of all of you and give thanks for Abelina's unabating perserverance.
Sincerely, Wendy, Raul, Eloi,Julian and Adrian Vasquez

I have to tell you, I am so very grateful this space exists. When updates about Abelina vanished from the local papers, I felt frustration. Interested in how it all was progressing, Thank You for taking the time to write the ongoing story as it happens.
I send loving Greetings of the Season, prayers for healing wounds- physical and emotional.
Oh, and Joy, as much as possible!
